 The ‘World of Work’ days at SM6 offer Year 12 students a dynamic introduction to real-world employment through employer-designed tasks that simulate professional challenges across various sectors. Held three times a year, these half-day events allow students to collaborate in teams, respond creatively to industry briefs, and gain valuable insights into workplace expectations. The programme encourages reflection, independent projects, and the development of skills like communication, teamwork and initiative, with prizes and further opportunities such as mentoring, placements and seed funding. These experiences help students build confidence, expand their networks and strengthen future job or university applications. Employers are invited to contribute through talks, task design, mentoring or sponsorship, helping students prepare for careers that don’t yet exist in a rapidly evolving world.
