Sports Coaching & Leadership Academy
The Sports Coaching and Leadership Academy at SM6 offers students the chance to develop essential coaching skills and leadership qualities through practical, hands-on experience. Participants will:

- support teachers and coaches in running fixtures, training sessions, and sporting events
This academy not only builds confidence and teamwork but also opens doors to part-time work opportunities, enhances coaching career prospects, and strengthens CVs for future education and employment.
Who is it for?
Whether you play sport or not, the Sports Coaching and Leadership Academy is open to everyone. Many past students who weren’t studying sports courses chose to join because they recognised the value of gaining high-quality leadership experience. Through practical coaching, event support, and professional training, these students have built confidence and skills that have helped them thrive in further education and their careers. This academy offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership abilities that are highly valued by universities and employers alike.
When does it happen?
Training is carefully planned around your study periods to avoid clashes with your timetabled lessons. You will receive up to 4 hours of training and mentoring each half term, alongside opportunities to log your leadership experience within the wider St Mary’s College extracurricular and sport programme. By recording these hours, you not only strengthen your experience but also work towards earning a recognised sports qualification that adds real value to your future prospects.
