At SM6, our Academy of Sport is designed to develop the next generation of athletes, coaches, and leaders. Whether you're striving to excel in your chosen sport, aiming to improve your general fitness, or looking to build a future in coaching and sports leadership, we provide the pathway, expertise, and support to help you succeed.
Our sports programme has a rich history of success, regularly winning local leagues and cups and advancing to the latter stages of national competitions.

Performance Sport
For those committed to excelling in their sport, the performance pathway offers regular training sessions, expert coaching, and the chance to compete in local fixtures and national cup competitions. It’s designed for athletes who want to push themselves and represent SM6 at a competitive level.

Participation
This flexible, inclusive option is perfect for students who enjoy sport and physical activity casually. Whether you want to try something new or keep playing the sports you love, participation offers occasional training and friendly fixtures in a relaxed, social environment.

Leadership & Volunteering
If you're interested in coaching, organising, or leading in sport, the leadership and volunteering pathway provides valuable experience and training. You’ll work alongside staff and coaches to support fixtures, training sessions, and sporting events – building skills that are recognised and transferable.
This pathway includes the opportunity to sign up to be part of the Coaching and Leadership Academy , which offers aspiring coaches the opportunity to gain more in-depth, hands-on experience to build leadership confidence, and achieve industry-recognised qualifications – all while continuing your academic journey.
The best part is, the leadership experience you gain could lead to part-time work on our SMC Summer School, boost your chances of securing coaching roles, and strengthen your CV for future employers and university applications.
